The Town of Index is located at the foothills of the Cascade Mountains. This charming little town is located roughly 20 miles east of Monroe, about 25 miles west of Stevens Pass, and “too far from Seattle for the drive” as one resident says. Driving down the US 2 there is a sign that reads ‘Index’ with the town being about 1 mile from there down the Index-Gelena Road. Be sure to turn left after 1 mile and drive over the Wes Smith bridge!

The Town of Index is “primarily a destination for in-the-know rock climbers” who fill the vancant little town. On a nice clear summer day, there are more tourist than residents, who only make up about 160 people (including the ‘wild’ rabbits, chickens and yes roosters).
